Bisexual Celebrities and Your Right or Left Brain
October 21st, 2007Lately, a lot of people have been asking me what I think of bisexual MySpace-celebrity Tila Tequila’s reality dating show on MTV. I haven’t watched it, and I haven’t been following the news about this show very closely, either. What little I’ve seen in the coverage has seemed pretty biphobic and cringe-worthy, along the lines of articles saying that Tila “claims” to be bisexual — what’s the difference between claiming to be something and actually being that thing?! Give me a break. That type of biphobic jargon has no place in respectable newspapers.
But, beyond that, since I have seen the show, I can’t share my opinion on it. I’d love to hear yours, though. Or, better yet, email me and tell me what you’re doing today to make the world a better place for bisexuals. I’ll tell you what I’m doing, too.
Coming up is the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Bay Area Bisexual Network (BABN), so, if you’re in SF, get your celebration on and come join us! BABN is a great organization, and we need to toast to their longevity.
Speaking of fun events in November, I’m going to be speaking about bisexual health and other bi topics at two different universities that month. First I’ll be talking with students at the University of California in Davis, thanks to the efforts of a student there who is organizing a bi visbility project on campus! Yay for bi students, getting the job done! Next, I’ll be presenting to a group of med students at the University of California in San Francisco, the local medical school. Thanks to Shane Snowdon of the UCSF Center for Gender Equity for inviting me. Of course, I’ll keep you posted, dear readers, on how these talks go.
Finally, here’s an interesting article sent to me by my classmate Ivan, about something that is definitely not bisexual: http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,22556281-661,00.html.
