Seinfeld Campus Bus Tour
October 19th, 2008Last week I spoke at an event for potential MBA students at my school. I was asked to tell the audience my favorite school memory thus far. Little did I know at the time that the best thing that could ever happen to me at UC Berkeley was yet to occur.
This week, I got to experience… the Seinfeld Campus Bus Tour!
I’ve been a fan of Seinfeld since it was on the air, and I still think it’s one of the best shows in the history of television. (Caveat: I’ve never watched an entire single episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I know some die-hard Buffy fans who feel that that was the best show, but the one partial episode I saw involved demonic hedgehogs and wasn’t that compelling. So the jury is still out.)
The Seinfeld Campus Bus Tour involves a giant bus, filled with Seinfeld memorabilia, including the Puffy Shirt, the Gortex jacket, Kristen Davis’ toilet-visiting toothbrush, the Nutria hat, Fusilli Jerry, the Estelle doll, an Emmy, and much more. Plus, they give away tons of freebies, including free samples of nonfat frozen yogurt, in homage to the episode where the Seinfeld castmembers all gain weight eating nonfat frozen yogurt. I also walked away with a mini-box of Junior Mints, a black-and-white cookie, and a Twix bar — all classic references to hilarious episodes! Before I left the bus, I got a chance to hang out with random Seinfeld-obsessed strangers and play a Seinfeld trivia game. Who knew that there were people out there who know the show better than I do?!
Outside the bus, I got my picture taken with the stars of the show (albeit in the form of a giant display), and will keep you posted when that is available for viewing. I visited the Yada Yada Yada booth and entered a drawing to win a digital camera, played blow-hole-in-one minature golf (I didn’t make the hole), and received Seinfeld-logo items including a pen, chapstick, key chain, stickers, postcards, and more.
Best of all, I was able to experience something absolutely magical, in all its silly, about-nothing, glory, right there on the UC Berkeley campus. And that, my friends, is my favorite school memory.
